After Josiane Vandersmissen, wife of Jean Pol Vandersmissen of the French speaking Belgian Killifish Association.

Type Locality

11 miles north of Kenema, Kenema district, southeastern Sierra Leone. A colour photo appears in ROTOW 1 page 197.

Distribution

Presently only known from 2 locations. The type locality & 4 km from Joru in the direction of Kenema.

History

Collected by E.Roloff in November 1963.
Also collected by Etzel in December 1978 4 km from Joro in the direction of Kenema but none of this collection were returned alive.
After Roloff's death Etzel obtained some of his papers regarding crossing experiments with fish from Kenema & E.fasciolatus. These were shown to have genetic barriers.

Breeding Notes

Similar to E.fasciolatus fasciolatus although reports suggest they are more difficult.
