  • Kumasi, within the Bobiri Forest Reserve (seen corrupted to Robiri), Ghana. Collected by Schiötz in 1961.
  • Close to Zouan on the Nipoué River, western Ivory Coast. Collected by Paugy et al. in 1977.
Type Locality

Bobiri Forest Reserve, Kumasi.

Distribution

Well distributed in Liberia, Ghana & Ivory Coast. Replaced to the west of their range by Rhex.nimbaensis & to the east by Procatopus sp.

Habitat

Primary forest areas in the foothills of the plateau in small rivulets/streams. These streams are recorded as being clear water with some flow rate over a sand base. Depth of water has been recorded at 30 cm, water temperature 20-30°C. Sympatric sp. include E.chaperi sheljuzhkoi, E.chaperi schreiberi, E.olbrechtsi olbrechtsi & Poropanchax rancureli.
This sp. is found in mid-water levels in shoals. They lay eggs on aquatic plants & roots of terrestrial plants at waters edge.

Breeding Notes

Reports from Killi-Data suggest a sand base, mops, Java fern & direct sunlight.
Sexual maturity in 20 weeks. Full maturity at 7 months with a life expectancy of 3 years.
