In the wild they lay eggs on aquatic vegetation & over hanging root systems from terrestrial vegetation.
Killi-Data records best breeding results in shoals over a sand base in direct light. Water incubation for 2 weeks. Newly hatched fry are reported to cling to the waters surface. First food, newly hatched brine shrimp. I would consider the smaller sp. of shrimp (San Francisco) to be best considered.
Sexual maturity in 16 weeks with full maturity in 7 months. Recorded life expectancy in captivity 3 years.
