Size

Holotype - Male - 24·2mm Standard Length.
Paratypes - 3 females from 16·5–19·5 mm SL, and 1 male, 20·3 mm SL.

Type Locality

A small creek in the upper Wamba River basin to the southwest of the Democratic Republic of the Congo not far from the Angolan border.
Collected on February 22nd 1939 by M.Bequaert, at that time head of the Archaeological Department of the Royal Museum for Central Africa (MRAC) in Tervuren who collected eight specimens of an Aphyosemion species in a small creek called Lukula, 10 km north of 'Poste de Panzi' .

Distribution

Only known from the type locality.

Habitat

Collected at an altitude of 1,000 metres.

Distinguishing Characteristics Distinct from others in the elegans group in having a black (probably - this is brown in preserved specimens) outer margin to all fins in males, a robust jaw, large head with large eyes, dorsal fin set further back down the body.

No live specimens known in captivity (2010).
