First collected near Jos at a location named Hillcrest. Fred Wright et al visited this area in June/July 1977 but could not find the sp. due to changes in the collecting area through development & polluted waterways.
They were found 5 miles from Jos on the Jos - Bukuru road. They were collected in cool water which was flowing fast in savannah.

Although this population name has existed for many years it encompasses other populations such as Rayfield, Vom & Kaduna etc.

In BKA newsletter No. 90, February 1973 reference is made to a collection of this population from the wild. These were reported as being a yellow phenotype. Despite every effort to bring them in & chasing about London until 0200 hrs the parcel was disappointing, containing 125 dead fish with the possibility of bringing 15 pairs around.
Also in this newsletter it was reported that this biotope dries out for 8 weeks each year. This was later confirmed as the biotope was revisited & found to be completely dry.

Twelve trios were sent to the AKA New & Rare Species Committee around the beginning of 1973.
